Business Writing Toolkit
Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- review the basic principles underlying business writing in general
- make the right choice between e-mail and more conventional business documents
- review and enhance their business writing skills
Programme Outline
Getting the basic tools together:
- Correct and appropriate language: use of dictionaries and spell-checkers
- Clear and readable layout: getting rid of old typing habits, avoiding an overdose of fancy presentation gimmicks
Writing to express, not impress:
- Identifying the reader’s information needs: primary, secondary and multiple audiences
- Presenting the message in a logical and persuasive manner
Using e-mails appropriately:
- Avoiding the chat trap: use of abbreviations, emoticons and colloquial language
- Choosing the right level of formality
- Getting the structure right: subject lines, salutations, closes and signatures
- Using attachments
Handling tricky situations:
- Remedying customer service issues
- Addressing personnel issues
